Tasks is a great way to mitigate this situation, but we know that having a lightweight checklist would be a lot more convenient for something like this. It’s on our list!

Maybe this never got done because you don't have a checklist to keep you on track? While there are many different opinions on how to go about a checklist due to the broad range of industries that use JN lets keep it generic enough to apply to all, but also complex enough to make it as useful as possible. A way for us to create a custom list of custom list options to create our check lists for each contact/job (Roof, Gutters, Siding, Windows, Screens, Stain Deck, Comb A/C Fins, Drywall, Paint. etc.) Allow a quick box at the top to the right of the contact info that requires clicking edit to avoid accidental checking or unchecking. The quick box could include all or up to a certain number of items or characters, or for those with very long lists it could remove items from the quick box or 'At a Glance' box and show the next items to be completed. It could also have a priority option so we don't necessarily have to put the list in order. The list would need its own tab for those with the extra long lists as mentioned by OP which would have the same capability as the at a glance box. Personally, I mostly do insurance jobs which change the scope throughout due to supplements or the client changing their mind on items to complete so being able to edit it quickly is best. Being able to make notes(separate from the list name) to the checklist would also be beneficial (i.e. [ ] Roof Atlas Pristine Copper Canyon.) You could even go as far as to include a completion percentage (redundant due to boards? Perhaps, but not if something got missed.) It could be simply be one all inclusive list or similar to work orders with sections and items for those that have multiple tasks at different points of their project. Speaking of tasks, NO, tasks is not a great way to mitigate the situation as it is far from time efficient and diminishes the usefulness of tasks for the way we use it by clogging it up with laundry lists of things to do. The ability to have a primary list like products and services that you can quickly add to one list would be much efficient. I am not expecting this to get done seeing as we are coming up on 10 years after it was requested despite it being one of the top requested features however, keeping up or surpassing competition is typically a better business model than falling behind, just a thought.
P.S. Toggling on or off a feature of auto checking off items if they have the same name or tagged to a specific workflow as it progresses would be a nice feature too.
