Currently each item on the calendar is colored according to the assignee, but we always exploring new ideas and ways to better represent the information on the calendar.
In the meantime, you can use icons in Task Type and Contact/Job/WO workflow settings to help distinguish between different types of items on the calendar.

I’m sure this would make things much easier for many users, since a lot of people rely on Outlook on a daily basis. Requiring an entire company to switch to Gmail just because there isn’t an option to sync with Outlook doesn’t seem very fair.
